Turnkey Relocation of a Two-Section Chemical Cold Store

Turnkey relocation of a working two-section cold store for chemical storage from one site to another, ~400 km apart — dismantling, transport, re-assembly, restoration and commissioning. The oversized section was cut for the move and welded back together and fully restored on site.

The challenge

A live two-section cold store for chemical storage had to be dismantled at one site and rebuilt ~400 km away — with one section too large to move whole, and a refrigeration circuit and cladding that had to come through undamaged.

  • One section was oversized — it couldn't be removed and transported in one piece.
  • The chamber, with its attached refrigeration equipment, needed careful teardown without damaging the cladding or the cooling circuit.
  • Two sites in different cities, and the store had to be restored to full working order at the new location.

Our approach

  1. 1

    Survey & plan

Assessment of the structure, breakdown into sections, a cut plan for the oversized section and a transport scheme.

  2. 2

    Engineering & rigging

A truck-mounted loader crane and a forklift; slinging of the sections.

  3. 3

    Dismantling

Removing the cladding and the cooler and all attached equipment. The first section came apart at its joint; the second, oversized, section was cut into two parts for transport.

  4. 4

    Marking

Marking of elements and assemblies for re-assembly.

  5. 5

    Logistics

Transport of the sections and equipment between the two sites by loader crane.

  6. 6

    Assembly & restoration

Welding the cut elements back together, grinding and painting the seams, restoring the cladding, levelling the chamber, and setting and anchoring the protective bollards.

  7. 7

    Commissioning

Equipment tested after assembly — no faults.

What made it unusual

The oversized section was cut for transport and welded back together on site with full restoration — seams ground and painted, cladding restored — so the chamber went back together "as new" and passed its test.

Safety

The two-section cold store was moved ~400 km, restored and tested — the oversized section cut, transported and re-welded, the whole chamber brought back to a quality as good as new, and handed over with a clean test and not a single incident.

NM Solutions moved our cold store between sites and rebuilt it to a quality as good as new. The tricky oversized section was carefully cut and restored by welding — all on schedule and with no incidents.
